Old review of my record “Cardboard Cyndi”
Enter the world of the Scheff family with Lauren, Darin and Jason together with their friends from Chicago: Dawayne Bailey and John Keane plus a few more impressive musicians such as Dave Levita(Kevin Gilbert), Blair Sinta and the magnificent westcoast/aor producer Michael E.Hutchinson….and there you have it:The next rocket ride on Fort Lauderdale called CARDBOARD CYNDI, imagine Chicago going down Foo Fighters lane and you’re one of the astronauts in this modern rock shuttle.
Can this be the album of the year!,it certainly will be one of the top 5 contenders because The Scheff’s has filled this CD with 12 cloudwalking tunes that?ll eat most of the stuff on the charts for breakfast.
So Brian Mcdonald and Jim Jidhed, make room? coz you’ve got company at the top of the best of.
The cover of John Lennon’s “Instant karma” is already a classic,I know John is smiling up there when he hears this version.
“One in a million” is nothing but pure heavenly pop extravaganza of the best quality, de luxe so to speak and what about the harmony vocals!….stunning!
“Long trip to nowhere” and “Halfway there” breaths a little Filter but with AOR tendencies, that is one helluva cool mix!!!! and then there’s the stuff that would make Dave Grohl happy and proud: “What else could I say”,”All of my life” and “Deep six holiday”.
The songs that have more of a Chicago/modern rock sound over it are:”All we never had”(it?s so good I?m freaking out),”Take me as I am” and “Think of me” -they can match any song of the latest Chicago cd?s from 17-21.
And how did I get over this masterpiece?,well I surfed into mp3.com to see if there was anything new to find and to my surprise- CARDBOARD CYNDI opened up my eyes and there I sat like a child on X-mas eve……Santa exists,I know that now with this present, thank you!
