This song was stuck in my head while I was vacuuming this morning. Why? No clue. But I did enjoy swapping out “this train” for other things like Chewie (our dog), whilst belting over the suction.

Chewie was bound for glory! Chewie!

In my head it was the original Woody Guthrie version, but when searching for a vid I came across this little gem from the inaugural Railroad Revival Tour, which chugged through six cities and held concerts at stations this past April. What a hoot! Bands on board: Mumford & SonsEdward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, and Old Crow Medicine Show - a perfectly selected group. Next year I hope Sand Diego band The Silent Comedy makes the cut. They’re a straight-out-the-1800s raucous live act who pair nicely with a stiff whiskey. I saw them absolutely blow the roof off The Viper Room last year at the Sunset Strip Music Festival, a highlight of 2010’s SSMF for me.

Watch The Silent Comedy “The Well”

In my opinion, RRT was a brilliant and well-executed concept, the Americana antithesis to the global high-speed digital rocket we ride day-to-day nowadays. Slow down time for a throwback hootenanny? Darn right. Sign me up. I’m so deep in the Tron-land of lasers, which I enjoy, but a moment of smoke and steel sounds allllright.

Check out the news page on the RRT website for some great photos and recaps, and try to go next year. I know I will do my best to choo my ass to the station next time around—or even better, ride the rails with the artists, as a few lucky folk got to do. I’ll certainly be keepin’ my ear to the tracks to find out how to do so.

Slap-a-da-knee!
